Time and time again I get approached by someone trying to find the secrets to gaining weight and getting hoooge. They usually ask about the best supplements to take or what workout will make their arms grow. My first response is generally something such as, "What is your diet like?" or "How many calories are you consuming?" I will normally receive a dumbfounded look or get some crazy response about how the person eats all day long and can't gain a pound. 9 times out of 10 the person isn't eating anywhere close to the amount of food they should be and when I start making suggestions on what to eat, I almost always receive this response, "I can't eat all that...I don't want to get fat." Are you fucking serious?!? Why are we even having this conversation?!?
Food is a basic compound that has been with us since the beginning of time. Yet so many people are afraid of it. I'll never understand why so many people want to get big and strong, but are afraid of a fucking piece of bread. If this offends you, stop reading here, go do some high rep cable curls, eat a couple egg whites, and stay skinny. For everyone else who actually wants to grow, I have given a basic outline below of some foods that should be a staple in your mass gaining plan.
First and foremost is meat. Red meat and lots of it. Steak is loaded with protein and anabolic fats and will put pounds on you like no other food. It is about as nutrient dense as a food can be and with all the millions of different cuts and price ranges there's no reason not to have your freezer stocked.
Next on my list has to be dairy products. They are loaded with calories and can be added to most of the foods you already eat. Adding milk, or even better chocolate milk, to your protein shakes will not only boost the calories but might actually improve the taste as well. Replace your egg whites with whole eggs, eat cottage cheese and yogurt with fruit...basically anything dairy, feel free to consume, and consume frequently.
The last thing I will mention is carbs. Don't be afraid of them. When trying to get big, the more the better. Some of the more dense and higher quality carb sources include oatmeal, rice, potatoes, pasta, fruits, and veggies. Regardless of which you choose to eat, make sure to eat them with every protein meal.
