❯ Shrook v.2.94
As I write this article I am filled with fear. I'm going to tell you about the only RSS reader I have found that fits my style of browsing, but I'm worried that in doing so I will unintentionally curse it. You see, ever since the death of Google Reader, I've been searching high and low for an RSS reader that meets my needs. It needs to be fast (web-based or standalone app, it doesn't matter); it must accept OPML files; and it needs to have a reliable search feature. That's not too much to ask, is it? Well apparently it is, because after over a month and a half of searching and testing, I've only just now stumbled across Shrook, the free RSS reader of my dreams. To be fair, Leaf isn’t alone in this behavior — Feedly does it on their website — but I find it a bit troubling as a website publisher. That image isn’t mine; I don’t want it to look like I’m using it without permission. Other OS Integration Pieces Google's new browser is now available for Mac While all of these settings can be overwhelming, together, they grant the ability to fine-tune the Reeder experience. While it did take several minutes to get all of this info updated on Shrook, it was worth the wait. After seeing a screenshot of this crowded, under-designed reader app, I was prepared to be pretty disappointed with Shrook overall.

RSS Bot couldn’t resolve The Sweet Setup’s feed, but once I got a few other feeds added, I couldn’t get RSS Bot to see new unread items.
Learn the power of plug-ins with Firefox Firefox is an essential browser for Mac users because it's a simple way to get some PC compatibility without running Windows in a separate virtual machine. Many Web sites are tested first on Internet Explorer, then on Firefox, and finally on Safari if the developer has time. Using Firefox on the Mac is almost the same as using Firefox on the PC.
Shrook is a next-generation news reader that is not only easy to use, but offers advanced features not available to Mac users anywhere else.
I just downloaded this app, based on the excellent reviews here, to replace Shrook which I’ve been using for years. Apparently the Shrook developers are shutting down their operation including the server they use for syncing feeds between devices. I like the fact that NewsBar syncs via iCloud. It was amazingly easy to transfer my feeds from Shrook to NewsBar just by copying and pasting the URL from one to the other. Nice!
